Her Excellency The Hon. Dr Jeannette Young PSM (Governor of Queensland), The Rev’d Eleanor Mancini (President of the Cathedral Mothers Union branch) and The Very Rev’d Dr Peter Catt (Cathedral Dean) during the celebration of the Cathedral Mothers Union branch birthday. Morning tea was enjoyed after the 9.30am Eucharist on Sunday 6 March 2022. The Governor and her husband Professor Graeme Nimmo attended the service and stayed for the morning tea celebration, chatting briefly with the congregation.

Harmony Week is a week to celebrate the cultural diversity of Australia, highlighting respect, inclusivity and a sense of belonging for all. To start off this special week, we hosted a Harmony Day service at St John's Cathedral in Brisbane. Thank you to the range of speakers, musical performers, dancers (including dancers from the FABS Filipino Australian Brisbane Society Inc.), and attendees who joined. Thank you also to Mu'ooz Eritrean Restaurant & Catering for putting out a mouth-watering spread! Mu'ooz is an Eritrean restaurant in South Brisbane that employs, trains and gives work experience to refugee African women. A splendid end to a splendid morning!”

Wednesday 27 April 2022 marked another milestone in the history of the St John's Anglican College, with the opening and dedication of St John’s new Middle School Precinct. The College welcomed Her Excellency the Honourable, Dr Jeannette Young PSM, Governor of Queensland and Bishop John Roundhill to this occasion, with students very excited and ready to enjoy this vibrant new learning environment. Palm cross workshop

Cathedral community members gathered during Lent to make palm crosses for Palm Sunday services. For most of the group, this was their first experience with this task – and one they enjoyed immensely. The “locals” were joined by Heather and Neil Croucher who were in Brisbane to see their son for the first time in two and a half years. Heather and Neil are parishioners of St George’s Church, Preshute, Malbourough in the UK. They noticed the palm cross working group on the Cathedral website and decided to combine a visit to our beautiful Cathedral with the opportunity to be involved. The morning was a great success with a very satisfying pile of palm crosses crafted, and new friendships formed. Pictured are Lesley, Ingrida, Angie, Neil and Heather.

Students at St Margaret’s Anglican Girls School celebrated Floral Friday on 27 May 2022 as part of the school’s acknowledgement of National Reconciliation Week. Students donned florals and took part in traditional Islander dance led by many of the school’s First Nations students.

The day is about remembering and acknowledging the mistreatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who were forcibly removed from their families and communities, which we now know as ‘The Stolen Generations’. Many people turned up at Palm Beach today to pay their respects with many organisations holding stalls to welcome the community. They had the candle light vigil followed by a one minute silence to honour the Stolen Generation Survivors. Afterwards, the community participated in cultural activities like basket weaving and painting, which was enjoyed by all."

The Glennie School Facebook on 23 May 2022: "Not even the recent wet weather could keep our Glennie community away for the 2022 Glennie High Tea on Sunday, which was proudly brought together by the Performing Arts Supporters Association. With an exquisite selection of teas, macarons, fresh scones, delicate sandwiches and sweets on offer, current and past parents, Old Girls, grandmothers, sisters and friends filled the Lawrance Hall with smiles and laughter. Our Glennie Girls ensured no cup was left unfilled, and the rows of raffle prizes and gifts went to some very happy homes. Occasions like the Glennie High Tea go a long way in supporting the Performing Arts Program at Glennie, and is only possible due to the many volunteers and supporters in the lead up and on the day. As the fur baby of our Southport Lifestyle Team Leader Glenda, Baz passed away after bringing joy to our clients and team for approximately 6 years. He was very much loved by clients and staff and we wanted to pay tribute to him with this post. Rest in peace, Baz!"
