Diocesan Synod will elect the five clergy and five lay Diocesan Council members in June this year. Expressions of interest are now open for Diocesan Council membership.
The role of Diocesan Council (DC) is to govern the mission, property and finances of our Diocese and to provide advice to the Archbishop.
“DC” meets monthly and its members include the Archbishop (the Chair), five elected clergy and five elected lay people. The Regional Bishops and the Chancellor serve as ex-officio members.
Diocesan Synod will elect these five clergy and five lay people in June this year. The five clergy must be members of Synod and the five lay people must be Electors. Those elected will serve for three years.
Diocesan Council will nominate people for election. There may be other people nominated from the floor of Synod.
The Diocesan Council Canon can be downloaded or viewed online and the following is a list of skills desirable for DC membership.
Essential membership capabilities
- Commitment to the whole Mission of the whole Church.
- Ability to assimilate and synthesise complex information.
- Capacity to develop and deliver a cogent argument.
- Strategic thinking.
- Leadership ability.
- Communication/interpersonal/relationship-management skills.
- Passion for the Church and time for the preparation work for Diocesan Council.
- Willingness to do appropriate Board membership training.
