“Remember the Sudanese people in your personal prayers and in your Sunday service intercessions”

“Despite what people may read or hear in the media, the war in Sudan is not about religion. In 2021 when my Anglican priest father was murdered — at a time when the unrest, that led to the war, started — Muslims and Christians gathered for his funeral. My priest father was beloved by the whole community. The war is about resources — about access to gold and oil,” says The Rev’d Rebecca King

"I have been touched by the very elderly World War II veterans who have approached me, saying they understand war’s impacts and how sorry they are for my people. Two veterans in wheelchairs spoke with me for half an hour, expressing their sadness — I could tell that they remember what it’s like all these years later," (The Rev'd Rebecca King in December 2023)

Reflections

“When my mum was pregnant with me she had a dream”

“In the following weeks, my mum forgot about her dream. When she gave birth, the midwife asked my mum what she was going to name me. My mum said that she didn’t know and so the midwife replied with, ‘How about you name her ‘Rebecca’ after me?’ That was when my mum remembered her dream,” shares The Rev’d Rebecca King

Coping with complexity

“Our community of faith ‘The Church’ has also become very complex. This leads to the call that as a community of faith we need to treat each other with more sensitivity, being very mindful and careful of what we say and do…Therefore, we need to be non-judgemental when our views do not align with the views of others around us,” says The Rev’d Rebecca King from The Parish of Yeronga and the Anglican Board of Mission
