The Ven. Bronwyn Pagram and The Rev’d Shane Hubner share their highlights, insights and learnings from recent visioning and Mission Action Plan days
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Christians from different denominations and Nations tell us why they are studying and working in the wonderful ministry that is Wontulp-Bi-Buya: “We don’t only learn about God, we learn about being brothers and sisters and that feeling of love that you feel within this college is so beautiful…The teachers understand us. They know our needs and they understand us.”
We each have a contribution to make
“You remarked to me once that in a Roman Catholic vestry there’s a picture of the Pope; in an Orthodox vestry there’s a picture of the Patriarch; and, in an Anglican vestry there’s a full-length mirror. Amusing yes, but in your case not true. I like to think that in the vestries you have entered there has been not a full-length mirror, but an image of Jesus Christ instead,” said Archbishop Mark Coleridge
“It is amazing how God is able to work through the very ordinary, like a pub chat between two mates, to bring about the most extraordinary situations,” says The Rev’d Max Lambourne from St Alban’s Church, Wilston on his unexpected call to the priesthood
Fr Peter Moore, Chair of Angligreen, tells us how we can help #BeatAirPollution as part of World Environment Day, which will be held on Wednesday 5 June this year
“In short, Australia’s pursuit of unity and prosperity and willingness to subordinate human rights to achieve those ends raises serious questions about who we are and what we value,” said Prof Renee Jeffery in her 2023 Human Rights Day address on the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights
“Despite growing up in Canberra, I only first heard about the Aboriginal Tent Embassy in 1998 at the age of 22. During that year I was employed by an Aboriginal agency to tutor First Nations primary school children…At the end of the final tutoring session, the student’s parents thanked me with hand painted gifts, including a rock featuring the Aboriginal flag on one side and ‘The Aboriginal Tent Embassy 1998’ on the other,” says Reconciliation Action Plan Working Group member, Michelle McDonald
“In my experience, the best way to find out what’s working and what’s not is to ask the people who are receiving the services. The Voice will be an advisory body, and when it’s up and running Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members from the grassroots will be able to communicate via a direct avenue to Parliament about why ‘the gap’ isn’t closing and how best to close it,” says former nurse Jill Rylatt from St John’s, Hervey Bay
“Whether it is in Anglican schools, colleges, universities, aged care facilities, hospitals or other workplaces, chaplains nurture, guide and comfort people from all faiths and none. They are truly the face of Christ in the world,” says The Rev’d Canon Sarah Plowman
